Penningtons Manches LLP is a leading UK law firm with an established charity practice. It provides a full legal service for charities, not for profit and social enterprise organisations of all shapes and sizes, including many of the country’s largest national charities.

The firm supports its charity clients with all aspects of charity law, compliance, commercial arrangements, mergers, collaboration, restructuring, governance, charity disputes, trustee disputes, regulation, funding, fundraising, real estate, personnel, reputation management and tax issues.

Penningtons boasts a new dedicated charity legacy team, led by Alison Talbot. Its lawyers have considerable experience and insight in legacy matters and they are passionate about the charity sector. Over the years they have championed and supported the work of legacy officers and their understanding of the wider sector enables them to give practical advice which combines commerciality with sensitivity.

On the contentious side, the team is lead by Philip Collins who has significant knowledge and experience of dealing with high value litigation, complex legacy and trust disputes, claims involving fraud and court of protection applications as well as the usual contentious matters that legacy officers come across on a daily basis. The team is proactive and has a keen focus on early dispute resolution and mediation, with a number of qualified mediators in the firm, including a charity mediator.

In relation to legacy and estate administration the team handles very large value estates, international assets, off shore trusts and complex tax issues in addition to the day to day administration of estates and routine legacy advice.

The team is delighted to support the work of ILM and its members.
