A Christmas message

December 12, 2023

What a year it’s been…we’re thrilled that ILM is ending 2023 with over 700 members, meaning we now represent nearly 500 charities of all shapes and sizes from across the UK.

Every day brings new engagement and new ideas, and for that we are extremely grateful.

Our training programmes continue to play a huge role in supporting members, enabling them to share their ever-growing skills for the benefit of the charities they work with. We also know from the feedback we receive, that peer support from within our fantastic community is also essential in helping each other to manage the pressure of generating ever more legacy income at an even faster rate.

Speaking of which, there is hugely positive news in that legacy income has now topped £4 billion annually. That’s an awful lot of mince pies (!) and I know I won’t be alone in celebrating that figure, while also making a Christmas wish that promised improvements in the probate system will soon begin to deliver a speedier response.

Indeed, our work with Remember A Charity regarding a commitment from HMCTS to enhance the services it provides for the charity sector, must go down as one of our highlights of the year.

A further highlight must be the support and commitment shown by our Corporate Partners, without whom much of our work would not be possible. We thank them and look forward to continuing to work in partnership in the years to come.

And finally…as Christmas is traditionally a time for giving, I hope you will each be able to give yourselves a gift of a proper break, time to spend with family and friends, and to reflect on the differences you are making for your charities throughout the year. You do a fantastic job and we are glad you are all part of the ILM family.

From our ‘house’ to yours…we wish you a Merry Christmas.
