Air Ambulance UK Fundraising Conference 2023

Flying the flag for the legacy sector

With many air ambulance charities across the UK now members of ILM, CEO Matthew Lagden was delighted to speak at the first ever Fundraising Conference for Air Ambulances UK (AAUK).

Attended by representatives from 13 air ambulance charities and held recently in Birmingham, the event was an opportunity for delegates to build relationships and share fundraising techniques.

As the national charity supporting the lifesaving work of the UK’s air ambulance charities, AAUK invited Matthew, together with Marcia Prince, Legacy Link Consultant, to talk on the topic The Importance of Legacy Administration.

Speaking afterwards, Matthew said: “Within the air ambulance sector there is a real appetite to focus on legacies as an increasingly important income stream moving forward. We’ve seen growth of around 20% a year over the last five years in terms of the number of legacies left to air ambulance charities versus elsewhere in the legacy sector.

“It is absolutely essential that legacy gifts are proper administered to safeguard and maximise this vital income and there were lots of really interesting questions from the audience about how to get things right. It was also excellent to meet up with some ILM members who attended and a great opportunity to spread the legacy message.”

Ashley Rowthorn, CEO of Legacy Futures, also spoke about how air ambulances can pool their knowledges and resources for greater impact when it comes to legacy fundraising.
