Charity Spotlight – BMS World Mission

August 2, 2023

This week’s charity spotlight highlights on BMS World Mission.

Mission and Vision
BMS works among some of the most marginalised and least evangelised people, as well as those forced to flee home, in some of the most fragile places on earth.

Impact and Success story
We have completely refreshed our legacy fundraising this year with the recruitment of the first Legacy Officer. New branding, imaging and slogan and complete refresh of the legacy webpage with videos, pledger quotes, information for executors, did you know facts and a strong call to action.

BMS has plans to host their first legacy pledger stewardship event in 2024. This will be a virtual event introducing their pledgers to key contacts overseas. Please keep an eye out for this event, as we look forward to sharing more details and inviting you to be part of this meaningful occasion.

New team members
Lucy Smith started in post in January 2023 and was completely new to legacies. She has completed the Institute for Sustainable Philanthropy’s Certificate in Legacy Fundraising course, the ILM’s Legacy Essentials course and has started on CiCLA.

Legacy Income Achievements
We currently have an annual income of c.£1m at around 14% of our total donation income but plan to increase this through new and innovative fundraising and providing a free will offering to our supporters.

We have a brand new webpage with information for enquirers and executors/solicitors. We also have a video introducing Lucy as a way for supporters/pledgers to put a face to a name.

We have had volunteers interviewing for us on camera and over the phone to say why they have pledged a legacy to BMS. We have also had volunteers user testing our new legacy webpage.

Achievements of the legacy team
New refresh and fundraising push since the start of the year with the drip feeding of the legacy message through multiple channels, interviews, and a social media campaign.

BMS concluded that ‘The ILM has been instrumental in providing Lucy with helpful information to guide her in her steep learning curve’
