This session, delivered by Richard Honey at Charles Russell Speechlys, builds upon the ‘Beginners IHT’ session delivered on the ILM Essentials Course. It is an interactive session designed to further delegates’ understanding of important IHT concepts within an estate administration, and will provide practical tips on spotting “red flags” and how to add further value to charitable bequests.

By the end of the session, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the IHT exemptions, allowances and assumptions in detail.
  • Be able to put the 10% rule in practice – and know how to maximise value of a charitable bequest.
  • Be able to spot Re Benham v Re Ratcliffe principles in practice through scrutinising estate accounts.
  • Know when single grossing up and double grossing up applies and be able to understand the calculations.

There will also be the opportunity to ask any tricky questions and discuss practical tips.
