Managing People and Teams – Session 1 of 3 

Please note: You do not need to sign up to all three sessions. These training sessions can be taken individually or as a course.

Course Overview: All managers need to be effective drivers of the management cycle in order to get things done in business, and good team leaders need to be effective at communicating, motivating, setting goals and driving performance through focused feedback and advice. However, good management practice may not be natural to everybody. This course teaches managers the basics of good people management and sets them on the path of being effective leaders of the future. We will also be looking at good team management and setting delegates on the path of being effective leaders of the future.

Target delegate group: The course is aimed people who have to manage or supervise other people or teams.

By the end of the course delegates will:

  • Understand the characteristics of a high performing team
  • Know the characteristics and actions of a good team managers
  • Know how to set and communicate clear and stretching goals in order to drive standards
  • Know how to drive work allocation and communications for effective team work
  • Know how to deliver constructive day to day feedback to drive team performance
  • Know how to spot and manage difficult team issues and conflicts
  • Understand how to motivate people and teams
  • Understand the management cycle
  • Know the characteristics and actions of a good people manager
  • Situational leadership and how to delegate tasks to different levels of experience and motivation
  • Know how to deliver constructive day to day feedback to drive development
  • Know how to manage difficult people with appropriate assertiveness

At the end of the session we want you to feel:

  • You know what your team is looking for in you
  • You know how to get the best out of different personalities to make a team effective
  • You can manage the performance – good and not so good
  • You know what a good manager looks like
  • You know how to motivate and encourage
  • You can set high standards and expectations
  • You can manage all types of feedback

The course is highly practical. Delivered by Roman Kubiak, contested wills, trusts and estates partner from Hugh James and Dr. Gwenllian Williams of deWinton-Williams. Roman and Gwenllian combine training with their own experience to ensure you have both input and air-time.
