A panel of experts from Farrer & Co. will host an in-person round table discussion for a small group of ILM members to consider the following issues:

1. Litigating for charities and reputational risk.

2. Handling hostile enquiries from the media: here we will provide practical tips for charities faced with aggressive questioning from journalists on sensitive and potentially damaging topics.

3. A brief guide to the law of defamation, including:

  • when a statement counts as ‘defamatory’;
  • the right to freedom of expression and key defences available to journalists;
  • areas of defamation risk for journalists;
  • remedies in defamation

4. Protecting your organisation’s reputation in a litigation context: here we will provide a checklist of useful actions, tools and approaches that you may wish to consider while preserving your organisation’s reputation during a contentious litigation or dispute.
