Probate fees increase

February 7, 2019

We are saddened to hear that the government has today voted in favour of an increase in probate fees. We have long been campaigning against this rise on behalf of our members, as we believe it will hit charities hard and could cost them in the region of £10million annually in legacy income.

Despite our objections, the government has gone ahead with the proposals and from April, the fees will increase. We were pleased, however, that eight of the 17 MPs that voted were against the changes, and we look forward to seeing the improvements to HMCTS that the Ministry of Justice has promised will be funded from the increased fees.

You can find out much more about this breaking news story in the Law Society Gazette here.
