“We’ll explore how charities can reduce cost, avoid unnecessary delay and maximise legacy income”
April 20, 2026With just over two weeks until ILM Conference 2026, we have caught up with another of our esteemed speakers, this time speaking with Anna Phillips of Foot Anstey, to find out what delegates can expect from their session, ‘Legacy Voyage’.

Taking to the stage for the final full session of the day, will be experienced conference speakers, Anna Phillips, Gavin Holt and Fiona Campbell-White of Foot Anstey, who will be joined by legacy consultant, Andy Salmons to take delegates on an interactive ‘Legacy Voyage’.
The Foot Anstey team will be hoping to bring some light hearted humour, along with practical insights to round off a day of in-depth learning.
“Our Legacy Voyage session takes delegates on a lively journey into the future of legacy administration. Through an ABBA‑themed structure, avatar appearances from key sector voices and practical discussion from the Foot Anstey team, we’ll explore how charities can reduce cost, avoid unnecessary delay and maximise legacy income,” says Anna.
Anna explains that the session will focus on four core themes shaping the sector’s future:
- Take a Chance on Collaboration – when a lead charity helps, when it doesn’t, and what “mindful collaboration” looks like in practice.
- Knowing Me, Knowing You – understanding co‑beneficiary needs, delegation limits and how to manage expectations early.
- Money, Money, Money – practical tips for cost‑effective administration, tax efficiencies and funding approaches.
- The Winner Takes It All – looking ahead to future models of working that support confident, consistent and efficient sector practice.
Anna says that the team wanted to provide a session which would provide practical insights and spark conversations around collaboration, consistency and efficiency, with a focus on fostering a positive future outlook for the sector.
“Legacy teams are under increasing pressure: rising case volumes, faster communication, mixed working patterns, and growing expectations from donors and co‑beneficiaries. At the same time, in some cases unnecessary dialogue and /or unclear roles are creating avoidable cost and delay.” Says Anna
Anna says the team chose this topic because “the sector is calling for practical, realistic ideas” that will:
- empower teams to make confident decisions
- reduce duplication
- support smaller charities
- create more consistency
- help maximise every gift
“This session provides a structured but engaging way to explore those needs,” says Anna.
While the team will be hoping to inject some humour and fun into the session, Anna says that the session will provide some genuinely useful takeaways for delegates:
- Practical steps to reduce cost, delay and unnecessary communication
- Clear methods for setting expectations and decision‑making structures early
- Ideas for stronger, more consistent cross‑charity collaboration
- Tips on tax, cost recovery and efficient case progression
- A better understanding of when to take the lead, when to step back, and how to support co‑beneficiaries
Summing up what delegates can expect, Anna says: “We want to provide a memorable and energising perspective on the future of legacy administration. Expect a mix of insight, humour and genuinely useful takeaways. Expect creativity. Expect music. Expect avatars and flares. But most importantly, expect real, practical tools to help move the sector forward, together.”
